Seeing two Broadway shows in one day is no small feat, but for four Broadway nerds with limited time in NYC it’s a must! We kicked things off with a stop at Shake Shack. my absolute favorite fast food burger joint. (And huzzah, Chicago is getting it’s own Shake Shack in the fall!!)
We snapped some pics on 45th Street, then headed into the Music Box Theatre to see ‘Pippin’!
This was my third timing seeing ‘Pippin’, and first time with the replacement cast to the original leads. This show is absolutely phenomenal-check out the cast’s Tony performance and a number they performed on David Letterman below:
It’s a fresh and exciting revival to the 1972 original, and won the Tony Award in 2013 for Best Revival of a Musical. I’m already beyond excited for it to make it’s way to Chicago next year!
We hung out at the Stage Door and chatted with some of the cast: first up, the dreamy Kyle Dean Massey (Pippin).
Let’s have a close up (sorry Linz and Meg!)
Bethany Moore (Player) and her dog!
John Rubinstein (Charles)-the original Pippin!
We grabbed a nice dinner at Marseille, then it was off to the Belasco Theatre to see Neil Patrick Harris in ‘Hedwig and the Angry Inch’!
The plot, staging and overall feel of ‘Hedwig and the Angry Inch’ are personally not something I particularly enjoyed. The show is done in an hour and a half, without an intermission, and is presented as though Hedwig and her band are putting on a concert for the audience.
However, both Neil Patrick Harris and Lena Hall were just spectacular in their roles. Seeing them perform was well worth the ticket price.
Predictably, insanity ensued at the stage door. We grabbed a spot across the street for a few pictures of Neil signing autographs!
