I’ve made it! I’m in London!
Joy despite three hours of sleep.
My first day in London town was a bit of an emotional rollercoaster. The weather was completely awful; dreary with cold and rain. After an adventure of locating my arranged taxi and the hour long drive to my flat I discovered there was a mix up and I had no furniture! While the essentials were being sorted out by my flat manager I bought my Oyster card and did a faux-commute to my office to make sure I knew where I was going. I grabbed lunch at Pret (obviously the Christmas lunch sandwich) and made a quick Tesco run for a few things. (Tesco is one of the grocery chains here and was my favorite of the options back when I studied here. Pret, aka Pret a Manger, is now in the States as well but I adore the chain. You can find a Pret everywhere you turn in London!)
One of the first things I unpacked; my Christmas tree from Steph!
My Saturday afternoon was a bit rough; I discovered my heat wasn’t working and spent a few hours huddled on the floor, watching ‘Downton Abbey’ and waiting for a bed delivery. This didn’t really work out as I’d hoped and I made an executive decision to stay in a hotel for the night. Read all about that here!
After a solid sleep on Saturday.
On Sunday my friend Gail and her fiancé Matt picked me up at my flat and drove me to IKEA to stock up on home goods. Once you are inside the London IKEA it feels just like IKEA back home…except the prices are in pounds of course.
Filling the boot with all the things!
After an afternoon of errands we were joined by Gail and Matt’s roommate Tom for dinner at their favorite local pub. I walked through Greenwich with Gail back to the tube to get home and prep for my first day of work in the UK. Not a bad way to end the weekend!
The Old Royal Naval College, regularly used for television and film including Les Miserables.
