My First Week

My first week in London has been odd, to say the least. I ended up staying at a hotel near work Monday through Saturday while a few things at my flat were sorted out. The five minute commute and breakfast buffet every morning were a treat, but I really didn’t get a sense of what it’s like to live/commute in London. Here’s to a fresh a week and feeling more like a local!

First day snap. First day snap.

My office is so different from back home. I come from a small office and my department in London alone is almost six times the number of people! I definitely will speak more towards working in the UK once I get settled; right now everything is a bit of a blur.

Tower Bridge-a really great hotel view! Tower Bridge-a really great hotel view!

Since I was in a hotel all week I went out for lunch every day. On Fridays there is a food market close by the office that has stalls with every type of cuisine you can imagine. I’m looking forward to this Friday treat every week when I’m in the office!

My new favorite treat.  My new favorite treat.

I played tourist on Tuesday night and walked around the area. It was super windy outside!

An evening stroll past Tower Bridge... An evening stroll past Tower Bridge…

...and the Tower of London!  …and the Tower of London!

On Thursday I went over to Gail’s to plan our Thanksgiving feast we are making this weekend. It was really nice to chat and make a simple meal together.

Friday I picked up my residence permit from the post office. I was issued a 30 day visa in my passport to get into the country, and my permit card is for my entire stay in the UK. It’s nice to have that “to do” checked off my list!

I spent my Saturday nesting in the flat and I ran a few errands in Canary Wharf. It’s only about a 10 minute ride on the DLR line to tons of shops and places to eat. There’s a Waitrose supermarket that I just know I’m going to be shopping at fairly frequently : )

SO obsessed with Downton Abbey at the moment.

This week I’m really looking forward to settling in at home in my flat. I have a full fridge to be able to cook all my meals and am slowly but surely making this place my own with pictures and decorations. I’m ready to get over the new hire hump at work and really dive into things. I’m hoping to get out in Central London next weekend to see a show in the West End and check a thing or two off my London bucket list!

Have a wonderful week!
