January 6, 2021

I’m not going to comment here on what happened last week. It was a radical and extreme thing that’s sad but not I feel an accurate representation of the bigger issue. Plus to quote Kevin, it’ll just get me mad. Of course there’s lessons here, but I’ll leave that as fodder for my Facebook friends to post about (and some already have).

For a long time it wasn’t American to discuss politics. So much was deemed unacceptable because it wasn’t politically correct. I myself am NOT political, and if you’d asked me 5 years ago to publicly share my political opinion I would have been horrified. This climate though has made it ok to promote your thoughts.

I believe it’s 2021 and there’s so much that is unacceptable (misogyny, racism). But these things still are very much active, and the tone of America makes it ok to voice and act on those things.

I’m not going to get on my soapbox and call people who disagree with me idiots. But I am a Democrat and I voted for Joe Biden. I’m very keen to have a calm conversation with someone pro-Trump to understand that side. I’ve posted on Facebook about this but even though I know I have pro-Trump friends NO reply. I also on a friend’s page asked someone who had said she supported Trump to explain it to me. Again, no reply. You’re totally welcome to have opinions, but when you publicly proclaim them then are too cowardly to discuss them I have no respect for you. If you cannot explain your thoughts to me without yelling at me, I’m not interested.
