This Is America

I have to keep insisting I’m not political. I post a lot about the subject but I’m not! I have this strong memory of sitting at lunch with Kevin and his mom when the conversation turned political and I fell silent. My parents are VERY political; they start every morning watching Morning Joe and their favorite channel is MSNBC. It’s not that I don’t care; far from it. But I often don’t know who people are or much about “important” subjects; call me vapid but I’m much more interested in the lives of celebs.

I am however an EXTREMELY proud American.

I watched all the inauguration coverage and cried several times.

My favorite part? Lady Gaga singing the National Anthem. I watched with my hand on my heart, obviously crying. I vividly remember the below from when he who shall not be named got elected. What an honor for her!

What really struck me is the importance of peaceful exchange of power (I’m a sucker for tradition) and how much that fucker dropped the ball. Talk about disrespectful!

They talked in the coverage how we didn’t realize how much was absent these past 4 years and it’s so true!

Seriously, I mentioned it here but watch the inauguration concert. The best part? Our former presidents talking and the best part of THAT? Bill Clinton saying we all need to get off our high horses.

Because it’s true. Especially after watching all that coverage I truly don’t understand people that oppose this. Forget political parties; this is about being a decent human being. Stop being so damn proud you’re a Republican and opposing smart kind things just for the sake of being loyal to your party. I’m a Democrat yes but that’s because their values are in line many times with how we should treat fellow people. Sometimes I’m just disgusted with how some people act. I cannot change that I’m a white, well off straight women. But that does not mean I don’t care about anyone that’s different than me. I always am open to being educated. I’m not perfect but I strive to be open minded.
